What is Placentophagia?

Placentophagia is the act of consuming your placenta for nutritional and hormonal benefits in the postpartum period. The placenta is formed even before the fetus, and is the disposable organ made to regulate blood, oxygen and hormones between mother and baby, as well as sending waste from baby back to the mother to be disposed of. Encapsulating and consuming your placenta can offer many benefits including reduction in postpartum bleeding, increase in breastmilk supply, decreased risk of postpartum mood disorders, replenishment of hormones and vitamins, and more!

“The placenta has a lot of different benefits … and I really felt that it improved my mood and my milk supply.” -Bekah M.

“Every time I take a pill, I feel a surge of energy and feel really healthy and good. I totally recommend it for anyone considering it.” -Kim K.

What are the benefits?

Placenta encapsulation is a natural, non-pharmacological, and low-impact way to boost your success in the early weeks following birth.  For years, women have experienced the following benefits when taking placenta capsules:

  • Lessening the risk of postpartum depression or ‘baby blues’

  • Helps stabilize your ever changing hormones post birth

  • Replenishes your iron from blood loss during birth and to prevent postpartum anemia

  • Providing the HPL hormone to help establish early and healthy milk supply

  • Replenishes your B vitamins and energy that were used during labor and birth

  • Offers natural pain relief from labor and birth of the baby

  • Lending you a consistent flow of oxytocin long after your birth euphoria ends

*It is important to note that this is a nutritional supplement and there are no guarantees that you will experience the benefits listed above. Placenta capsules do not take the place of medical care and should not be used to treat severe anemia, inadequate milk supply, postpartum depression or anxiety.
