Birth Planning
Evidence shows that taking an active role in your care decisions improves outcomes for you and your baby.
You don’t need a list of interventions to avoid, you need a strategy for navigating labor and birth.
The Problem.
We know that birth plans can be controversial, ineffective, and a source of conflict in the birthing room. We’re here to help. Childbirth is unpredictable and uncertain. Many providers feel birth plans are restrictive, inflexible, and misguided. A rigid birth plan can leave your birth team feeling defensive and frustrated, like you don’t trust them with your care or your baby. They can leave parents feeling anxious, overwhelmed, protective, and defensive too. If you find yourself asking, “How can anyone plan for birth?” or “I know what I want now, but what if something changes?”, you aren’t alone.
Our Solution.
Birth Planning not a Birth Plan. A verb, not a noun. A birth plan isn’t a piece of paper or a list of preferences, it’s a strategy for about communicating your values and goals to your care team so that everyone can work together to help bring your baby into the world safely and respectfully. After working with dozens of families, we’ve developed a value-guided approach to birth planning to give you the tools and skills to have an empowered positive birth in any situation. We will help you build a Birth Plan that you and your provider will love.
